SPYCAMS

Personal Project
Research

In Korea, hidden cameras have become a serious issue. Filmed videos are illegally uploaded and sold online and the number of victims who are filmed and criminals who are filming the videos increases geometrically every year.

Video contents include revenge porn, filming in toilets, public places such as train stations, schools, airports etc. However, the Korean law regulation is quite strong to deal with these crimes but the punishment is extremely weak.

Furthermore, it is very accessible that people can purchase micro cameras easily on the Internet. Cameras are difficult to spot, looking like daily stuff such as glasses, a bottle of water, a watch etc. The hardest-to-find camera looks like a screw but it is actually a micro camera. The screw is set in public toilets and fitting rooms. It is hard to find out the cameras and sometimes these can be missed by detection devices.

The Survey
The questions asked the gender of the respondents who live in Korea and their opinions on spy cams, and micro cameras, how much anxiety they feel, and which places they most feel anxious about the hidden cameras. Also, I received opinions about the types of micro cameras that the respondents knew about. I tried to create a questionnaire as neutral as possible. So the severity levels were multiple-choice and the opinion on spy cams, and micro cameras was subjective. It took five days in total, and the results were interesting.
